Veggemo! Soy-free, nut-free and dairy-free…
Veggemo - a soy-, dairy-, and nut-free beverage containing a blend of pea protein, tapioca and potato - has made a splash in Canada (where it is now in 1,500 stores following a November 2015 launch) and is planning a US invasion in the fall.
Consumer research suggests Veggemo appeals to dairy and non-dairy consumers alike, says VP marketing Wade Bayne, who is confident of getting into 1,000 US stores at launch via UNFI and KeHE. Veggemo has more protein than almond milk (3-4g/serving vs 1g for almond milk), but less than new pea-protein based beverage Ripple (which has 8g/serving), he said.
"For consumers we spoke to, protein was not top of the list of priorities for this kind of product."
