Pet supplement specialist Nutramax Laboratories called on consumers to return counterfeit products sold by unauthorized resellers on Amazon.

In the announcement made Friday, Nutramax Laboratories Veterinary Sciences, Inc. determined that third-party resellers on Amazon have been selling counterfeit versions of three of its top-selling animal supplement products: Cosequin DS+MSM 132 and 250 count chewable tablet bottle, Dasuquin with MSM 150 count chewable tablet bottle for small to medium and for large dogs, and Proviable DC 80 count capsules carton.

“The counterfeit products we have examined to date were essentially made of a starchy filler compound that is often used in pills, capsules, and other ingestible products, but it is important to note the composition may vary from package to package,” the company’s statement said.

Beyond the fillers, there was not much else. “Pets are not receiving any of the needed health benefits of authentic Nutramax products,” the announcement continued. “For these reasons, we are treating these counterfeit products as a threat to pets’ safety and well-being.”

The company is offering consumers free shipping labels to return counterfeit products at no cost to replace counterfeit products with authentic Nutramax products.

Anti-counterfeiting  measures that the company enforces include close work with retail channels (online or offline), retailer audits of Nutramax inventory, as well as legal action and law enforcement.
