The Organic & Natural Health Association will reveal more details about its ongoing effort to define “natural” – a much-used but dangerously ambiguous marketing term – at its inaugural national conference Jan. 26-27.

Members of the relatively new trade association, which formed last year, will gather with key industry players at the Westin Cape Coral Resort at Marina Village in Florida for the retreat.

The association’s discussion about the definition of natural will build on details announced in October that suggest the definition will go beyond Organic in some area. For example, CEO Karen Howard said natural will exceed organic by requiring cattle to be pasture-fed. She also said the definition will prohibit synthetic vitamins D and E, nano-particles and cloning.

Also on the docket for the January conferences is a presentation by the association’s lab partner Health Research Institute and an update on legislative and regulatory activity, the group said.

There also will be time for networking during planned outdoor excursions on the afternoon of the second day, according to the association.
